A Paris organ, a language coming back, and Wednesday at 11
Celebrate Lower Cape · November 5–11, 2026
Last week was Halloween and the extra hour. This week the summer crowd is gone and you can feel it. The festival crowd heads home Sunday night and the last restaurants close until spring. What's left is the year-round calendar, and this week it's a strong one: an organist from Paris, a Wampanoag linguist, a Coast Guard captain, two choirs, a world premiere and, on Wednesday, five towns standing in the cold to read names.
Reading the week
Saturday is the heavy day, and it splits by coast. On the bay side, start at a holiday fair: Cape Cod Tech in Harwich, the Holly Fair in Brewster or the Holy Spirit bazaar in Orleans. Then hear jessie little doe baird at 1 and Byzantine chant at 3:30, both on Route 6A in Brewster, and finish with Giocosa or Mortal Thoughts in Orleans at 7. On the Outer Cape, it's sea turtles in Wellfleet in the morning, the Grand Tasting in Provincetown at 1, a last lobster roll at the Lobster Pot and Duo Andalus back in Wellfleet at 7. Pick one coast. If you try both, you'll spend the afternoon on Route 6.
Friday is the music night. Daniel Roth at the organ in Orleans at 7:30, jazz with dinner at Wequassett, the Grab Brothers Band at the Squire, free sets at Ocean Edge and the Barley Neck, and FAWC Friday in Provincetown.
Sunday afternoon is for sitting in a pew. Giocosa in Chatham at 3, the Chatham Chorale's chamber singers in Harwich at 3, storytelling in a Wellfleet church at 4:30, and Vance Gilbert at Preservation Hall at 5.
Monday and Tuesday are better than they look. Chatham holds a Veterans Day lunch Monday, the Bird Club meets in Brewster that night, Tuesday has Cape Cod Modern and Dan Wolf at 1:30, the Orleans town meeting session at 4:30, and the John Hay Studio writers at 6:30.
Wednesday isn't a normal Wednesday. Plan around the ceremonies (see Headlines). Several libraries and town buildings are closed, but the Orleans rink adds a holiday skate.
This Week's Headlines
Veterans Day is Wednesday, and here's what's closed. Brooks Free Library and the Harwich Community Center are closed, and so is Eldredge Public Library in Chatham. Brewster Ladies' Library is closed both Monday and Wednesday. Truro Public Library and the Wellfleet Adult Community Center are closed Wednesday. The ceremonies, in order: Brewster, 10 AM, Council on Aging front lawn (rain location: the fire station); Eastham, 10 AM, 1869 Schoolhouse Museum, which opens afterward until noon; Chatham, 11 AM, Community Center, with guest speaker Henry Holden; Harwich, 11 AM–noon, Evergreen Cemetery, East Harwich, with the Town Band; Orleans, 11 AM, Veterans Park, with the Nauset Regional Middle School band and chorus and keynote speaker Alan Chace; and Provincetown, per the Independent, a 10 AM rededication at the Motta monument on Motta Field, then 11 AM at the Veterans Memorial Wall. We couldn't find a 2026 ceremony time for Wellfleet or Truro.
The Lobster Pot's last day of 2026 is Saturday. The restaurant's own site says service ends Saturday, November 7. It opens at 11:30.
Provincetown's Food & Wine Festival runs Thursday through Sunday. Our full guide ran last week. The confirmed schedule, with fixes to the festival's own date typos, is in the Provincetown section below.
The Chatham Turkey Trot price goes up after Friday. Registration is $35 through Friday, Nov. 6, and $45 after.
Two runs end and one starts. Cape Cod Theatre Company's Baker Street Irregulars closes Sunday. Verity and Sense and Sensibility have their last Orpheum showings Thursday, and Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine opens Friday. Cape Rep is dark until The Hundred Aker Wood opens Nov. 12.
The holiday fair season starts this weekend. Three church and school fairs run Saturday. Ignore any listing that puts A Different Drummer's Harwich holiday fair on Nov. 7: the organizer says Nov. 14.
Brewster Ladies' Library's Winter Book Sale is on Sundays now. The basement sale runs 1:00–3:30 every Sunday from Nov. 1 to March 21.
Don't Sleep On This
Chefs on the Spectrum. Thu, Nov 5 · 6:30 PM · Chatham Orpheum Theater, 637 Main St · price not confirmed; check the Orpheum.
Chef Franklin Becker started Chefs on the Spectrum to train autistic cooks and place them in professional kitchens. On the panel with him: Joseph Valentino from his New York restaurant, Chatham Bars Inn executive chef Andrew Chadwick, David Summers of Riverview School, Kim Shambrook of Autism Speaks and Rachel Kaprielian of Triangle. Chatham Bars Inn is the presenting sponsor. Every restaurant on the Cape is short-staffed by November, and this is a room full of people working on who gets hired. Reports disagree on whether tickets are $10 or $40, so check before you go.
Lost Voices of Byzantium with Spyridon Antonopoulos. Sat, Nov 7 · 3:30 PM · Performing Arts Center, 95 Southern Eagle Cartway, Brewster · local coverage says free; the venue page shows no fee.
Antonopoulos sings and explains Byzantine chant, the church music of Constantinople, and how it survived through both memory and manuscript. It comes two hours after the Wampanoag talk down the road, and the two are about the same thing: how a voice lasts after everything around it changes. Do both and make Saturday afternoon about that.
The Revolutionary War Experience. Sun, Nov 8 · from noon · Brewster Historical Society, Windmill Village, 51 Drummer Boy Rd · price not posted.
The Brewster Colonial Artillery Company sets up camp and shows how a militia lived, cooked and drilled. With Veterans Day three days later and the 250th still going, it's a good afternoon for a kid who has only read about 1776. Bring that kid, and let them ask the men in the tricorn hats something hard.

Editorial pick: Barry Donahue: A Life's Work — Exhibition Reception · Sat, Nov 7 · 11:00 AM · Snow Library, 67 Main St, Orleans · price not stated.
A photographer's whole career, hung on the walls of the town library where his neighbors check out books. A retrospective in a gallery is a career summary. In a library it's closer to a homecoming. Go to the reception, then come back on a Tuesday when it's quiet and look again.

The theme is "Race to Zero Waste." It's a Cape-wide day for people working on waste, recycling and conservation in their towns: committee members, teachers, people who run a swap shop. If you've ever stood at the transfer station and wondered where all of it goes, these are the people working on it. Go for the morning and leave with one thing your town could do differently.

Editor's note
November on the Cape is when the visitor calendar stops and the year-round calendar starts. You can tell which is which by who's in the room. At Saturday's language talk in Brewster, at Sunday's chamber music in Chatham, at Tuesday's town meeting session in Orleans, the people next to you will be the people you see at the post office all winter. That's the reason to go.
Then Wednesday. The ceremonies are short, the wind will be cold, and the names will be read whether or not you're there. Be there. Stand next to someone you don't know, and say good morning afterward.
Next week: Cape Rep opens The Hundred Aker Wood on Thursday, Nov. 12. Mortal Thoughts plays its second weekend Nov. 13–15. A Different Drummer brings its holiday fair to Harwich on Saturday, Nov. 14, and A Woman Named Carlös plays the Post Office Cabaret again that night. Thanksgiving is two weeks off, so the menus and turkey trots start next issue.
